It's finally here! The "official" first day of Spring is
tomorrow. Though I know that means many more cold days and probably a
couple more snow storms; I was just out in my yard, and I saw my first
daffodils starting to burst through the ground. This, coupled with the
longer days and warmer temperatures we've been having, mean we can
finally get out and start digging in the dirt!
We just received our first crop of cool weather vegetables, so
start prepping your soil! All of us here at the nursery have
already begun planning our veggie gardens - so if you need some advice,
we'd love to help!
We've also just received our first shipment of homegrown
pansies, which are a great way to add a splash of color in an otherwise
dreary landscape; while you wait for your Summer Bulbs to pop up.
Another great early Spring activity is to start your Seed Potatoes.
Growing Potatoes is surprisingly easy, and what's more versatile than a
potato?! This issue is chock full of information to get you started. |

Potatoes have it all! They are easy to grow,
require little maintenance; and even produce beautiful star-shaped
flowers. Potatoes also yield an abundance of edible tubers that can be
mashed, baked, scalloped or fried; according to your taste.
No matter what kind of gardener you
are: vegetable, ornamental, or both; the space you have to grow
often dictates your choices. Not so with potatoes! Whether you have
a lot of land or live in an apartment, space will not limit your
ability to grow potatoes.

Root Plants Have Arrived!
Dare to go bare! Bare root planting is a
great solution to cost effective sustainable gardening. The plants
arrive dormant, so they look like a little dead stick, but there is a
lot of bounty waiting to burst out! Since they are inexpensive, you can
easily create a mass planting, and have a huge harvest of edibles next
year.
Properly planting your bare root
plants is essential to their survival and successful
fruiting. Click here for a handy guide to planting and initial care
of your bare root plants: BARE ROOT PLANTING GUIDE
Need more help? Stop in and visit with one of
our friendly experts, we'll be glad to help! (We will
also be holding a Bare Root Planting Seminar in April, check our website
for dates). |
